A simple map of Tokyo, describing the ring of the Yamanote line and all the station-named neighbourhoods around it. Tokyo was actually designed to BE CONFUSING. The streets have no names (really) and they are mashed together in a baffling maze. At every subway station, there's an incredibly thorough map that explains the immediate area. Before phones, these were essential for anyone finding anything ever.
ABOUT THE IDEA
Information is more fun to read when it's beautiful. Archie designed these charts and maps with hours of research, reassembling data into a brain-friendly aesthetic. The information is edited significantly, avoiding the "dazzle" effect which occurs when our eyes are battered with too much information. Letterpress makes it even more gorgeous.
ABOUT LETTERPRESS PRINTING
Letterpress is a very complicated and expensive printing method. All letterpress prints are slammed with 600 pounds of pressure, creating a deep, tactile texture. The ink gets embedded into the thick soft paper so it won't fade within your lifetime.
