Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. It is characterised by its distinctive bands, formed by microscopic quartz crystals laid down in rows. Although Agate does come in a variety of colours, the very bright colours you will find in crystal shops are artificially dyed. Just like the rest of our crystals, our Agate slices are natural and untreated.

The ancient Greeks discovered Agate crystals on the banks of the river Achates, and carved them into magical talismans. The most stable of crystals, Agates are said to be grounding stones, bringing balance to the mind, body and spirit. It can aid in centring and stabilizing physical and mental energy, including concentration and focus. A stone for when you need practical solutions, Agate boosts perception and analytical abilities. Spiritually, Agate crystals can harmonise ying and yang forces, and promote inner stability.
